Gradual reduction occurs with each Laser Hair Removal treatment, however, many patients experience significant clearing and relief of ingrown hair in as little as one session. Depending on the area of concern, type of hair, and medical history, a series of 5-10 treatments may be required for optimal clearance.
What is Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal is a process that uses a beam of concentrated light that is absorbed by the melanin within the hair follicle. The light destroys the follicle resulting in inhibited or delayed hair growth.
Treatment Preparation
- 4 weeks before: Avoid waxing, tweezing, or threading the area to be treated
- 2 weeks before: avoid sun exposure and wear sunscreen
- 1 week before: discontinue use of retinol, AHA’s, and BHA’s (if treating the face, lip, chin, jawline, or neck)
- Day before/day of: closely shave the area to be treated
- Patients taking antibiotics should not be treated with a laser as it causes the skin to be photosensitive.
Should I get Laser Hair Removal?
While virtually every skin type is a candidate, our Philadelphia laser hair removal candidates should know that it can only be used to treat dark hair.
It will not treat white, grey, red, or blond hair as the laser is targeting the dark pigment of melanin.
How Long does Laser Hair Removal Take?
