As you age, your skin experiences physical changes that are caused by reduced natural volume, which causes the formation of wrinkles and folds. There are always surgical options, but thankfully, there are non-surgical options also available. At our practice in Philadelphia, we offer Dermal Fillers to add volume to your face and improve other signs of visible aging. If you are interested in making these types of facial changes, please keep reading the information we have provided below.
Dermal fillers are an extremely popular cosmetic treatment that is FDA-approved, utilizing soft, gel-like substances that are injected under your skin to address many common concerns such as smoothing out deep under-eye circles, lifting cheekbones, increasing lip volume, or rejuvenation of your hands. These injectable gels are designed to add volume to areas of the face that have lost elasticity or firmness due to aging, sun damage, or other factors. They can also be used to enhance features such as the lips and cheeks or to correct facial asymmetry.
They are composed of a variety of substances, which can be synthetic or natural. The most common compound used in dermal fillers is hyaluronic acid (HA). HA is a substance naturally found in our skin and plays a major role in keeping the skin hydrated and volumized.
Dermal Fillers are a great way to correct any of the following aesthetic challenges:

If you’re looking to get Dermal Fillers in Philadelphia, the first step is to contact Subbio Plastic Surgery & Medical Spa and schedule your initial consultation. When you come in for this appointment, you will meet with either Dr. Subbio or one of our nurse practitioners to discuss your goals for the treatment and decide on which filler is best for you. Your provider will examine the area you’re interested in treating and ask you questions about your medical history. It’s incredibly important to be open and honest when discussing your history and goals to help prevent any unnecessary risks.
After everything has been discussed, your custom treatment plan will be made and if you agree with it, we will be able to perform your filler injections immediately. If you instead choose to reschedule for another day, our Patient Coordinator will be more than happy to find the best day and time for you.
When it’s time to receive your Dermal Fillers, you will begin by having your face cleaned off and dried. Then, your provider will make markings on your face where they feel the filler should be injected. Once the two of you are ready, we will try to make your experience better by either applying a cold compress or topical anesthetic to your skin. Using a syringe with a very fine needle, the injections will be made at the marked locations, with each injection will only taking a few minutes per site.
After each injection, the result will be gently massaged so that the filler is evenly distributed. It will then be assessed by you and your provider, adding more filler if necessary. At the end of your session, you will wait in our office for about 10 – 20 minutes to ensure you don’t have any negative reactions to the filler.
Once it appears that you are OK, we will release you and you can return to your normal routine, but you will need to avoid sunlight and touching your face during the first 24 – 48 hours. Keep in mind that if the filler is manipulated too much, there is potential for it to migrate into other areas, creating an unwanted and uneven appearance.
Your face will most likely have an “overfilled” look with some potential lumps or hardened areas during the first few days, but this will subside as your body naturally absorbs some of the filler, with the remainder settling into place. You can also expect some visible swelling and bruising that will range from mild to severe, as well as temporary redness or soreness. These conditions can be alleviated by gently icing the area combined with some very mild massaging, improving within a few up to a couple of days.
The cost of Dermal Fillers in Philadelphia will depend on the type of filler you are getting and how much of it is needed to achieve your desired appearance, among several other factors. When you come in for your consultation and your treatment plan is made, our Patient Coordinator will be able to use that information to provide you with a breakdown of the total price.
