Introduction to Lip Lift

We often ignore the daily toil our mouths go through. Whether it’s a casual smile here, a general smirk, or even environmental exposure, the skin around your mouth and lips is under continuous stress. The good news is that there is a solution to sagging and lifeless lips – a lip lift. Founded by board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Christian Subbio, Subbio Plastic Surgery and Medical Spa has become the one-stop shop for cosmetic and aesthetic procedures, including a lip lift performed by our in-house surgeon, Dr. Charles Schafer.

What is a Lip Lift?

A Lip Lift is a plastic surgery that reduces the distance between the nose and the upper lip. It is a highly sought-after procedure for patients looking for long-lasting solutions to drooping lips and mouth. During a lip lift, the mouth is lifted higher, with any excess skin being removed. This leads to a tighter, well-defined contour. Dr. Schafer at Subbio Plastic Surgery and Medical Spa is a skilled and artful surgeon who will prioritize his patients’ aesthetic goals, ensuring that they are satisfied with a new, youthful smile.

Who Are The Best Candidates For A Lip Lift?

A Philadelphia lip lift procedure is recommended for patients who wish to improve the appearance of their lips and achieve a more balanced and youthful facial aesthetic. The best candidates for lip lift will have some of the following characteristics:

  • Have thin lips or “bird lips.”
  • Lip asymmetry
  • Drooping mouth
  • Low self-esteem due to a sagging mouth and lips
  • No underlying medical conditions
  • Realistic expectations

What’s the First Step?

The first step in getting a lip lift in Philadelphia is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Schafer at Subbio Plastic Surgery and Medical Spa in Newtown Square, PA. You will meet with Dr. Schafer during your appointment to discuss your medical history, aesthetic goals, concerns, and expectations. This is a great time to be honest about any chronic conditions and ask questions so that you can decide if a lip lift is the best way to tackle your aesthetic goals.

Dr. Schafer will also evaluate the shape, size, and proportions of your lips to determine if a lip lift is indeed the best way to achieve your desires. To manage your expectations, he will explain the procedure in detail, including the techniques and associated risks and benefits.

If you decide to proceed with a lip lift, he will create your customized surgical plan. Once you have your plan, feel free to take it to our Patient Coordinator, who will help you schedule the day and time of your lip lift procedure, guide you on billing and payment options, and provide you with pre-operative instructions.

What to Expect on the Day of Lip Lift Surgery

On the day of your lip lift in Philadelphia at Subbio Plastic Surgery and Medical Spa, you will arrive at the surgical center and meet with Dr. Schafer. If you have any questions, your surgical plan will be shared with you once more. We want to make sure that you are fully comfortable and in agreement with the plan before we take you into surgery. At this time, Dr. Schafer may also make some temporary marks on your lips for targeted positions of the incisions. Finally, a board-certified anesthesiologist will administer anesthesia.

Once sedated, Dr. Schafer will carefully place incisions along the natural lip line or beneath the base of the nose to hide any potential scarring. Once he has access to the underlying tissue, he will extract any excess skin or tissue, elevate the upper lip, and achieve a final position and shape of the mouth, as discussed. Once he is done, he will seal the incisions with sutures and dress the area.

On average, and without any complications, a lip lift takes about one to two hours.

Lip Lift Recovery

After your lip lift surgery, the medical staff will monitor you in the recovery room until the sedation wears off. We recommend that patients have a friend or caretaker drive them home in case any effects of sedation last.

Be aware that there will be some swelling and bruising around your lips, but that should subside over the next few days. Patients are encouraged to avoid strenuous activities for the first few weeks and follow the specific guidelines for eating, drinking, talking, and using their lips and mouth.

How Much Does a Lip Lift Cost In Philadelphia, PA?

The cost of a lip lift in Philadelphia will vary depending on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, the techniques used, the complexity of the case, and the surgeon’s fees. The most efficient way to arrive at the final costs is to book a consultation so that Dr. Schafer can develop a procedure plan. Once this plan is complete, our Patient Care Coordinator can provide a detailed estimate of the pricing options available.
